From 1965 to 1981 Spode specialised in designing plates and other ornamental objects to commemorate important anniversaries of leading English Cathedrals, Regiments and other organisations.

The Salisbury Cathedral plate was designed by Harold Holdway, Spode's chief designer for much of the 20th Century, based on designs in Celtic manuscripts.
